Advanced Design Communication II : Integrated Design

This course offers an opportunity to learn an interdisciplinary investigation of design theory as connected to digital technology and its applications to current developments in practice and research within architecture and design. The purpose of this course is to develop a method of design communication with various digital technologies that would enhance the processes that lead to the generation of meaningful architectural form. The course encourages students 1) to explore creative uses of digital technologies, 2) to exercise computational complexity, and 3) develop analytic representations in their design process.

Through this course, students are expected to achieve a comprehensive level of 1) understanding various design principles, 2) generating 2D & 3D geometric models, and 3) employing integrated design strategies for maximizing the quality and productivity of design artifact.

DESCRIPTION

Integrated Design: with this final group project, each group will develop a design proposal of an affordable housing with considering environmental sustainability. Students will explore an integrated design method in order to achieve their design goals. The challenge to each group is to design a small, attractive, solar-powered house with modern amenities for low-income people in Hawaii. Maximum number of students per each group is 4.
