DESCRIPTION

This research will bring forth an evaluation of intelligent skins as a new dimension in architecture. For buildings, the role of the skin is not limited to dividing the inside and outside of the building. It has a direct influence on the communication between the inside and outside by environmental, functional, economical, and aesthetic elements. Therefore, rather than considering it simply as a part that makes up an architecture space, the architecture skin should be actively used as a factor that increases user satisfaction by maximizing the use of sustainable energy such as sunlight. A successful architectural design responds to the functional, aesthetic, and social/psychological needs of its occupants. An intelligent skin could bring these responses to new a new level. For example, the skin could respond instantaneously to a user’s comfort preferences and thereby increase well being and productivity. A constantly changing skin would help connect a person to the forces and beauty of nature.
