Advanced Design Communication II : Building Information Modelling

This course offers an opportunity to learn an interdisciplinary investigation of design theory as connected to digital technology and its applications to current developments in practice and research within architecture and design. The purpose of this course is to develop a method of design communication with various digital technologies that would enhance the processes that lead to the generation of meaningful architectural form. The course encourages students 1) to explore creative uses of digital technologies, 2) to exercise computational complexity, and 3) develop analytic representations in their design process.

Through this course, students are expected to achieve a comprehensive level of 1) understanding various design principles, 2) generating 2D & 3D geometric models, and 3) employing integrated design strategies for maximizing the quality and productivity of design artifact.

DESCRIPTION

Building Information Modelling of Tadao Ando's Koshino House:

1) Experience a design process with building up 2D/3D architectural information under Autodesk Revit environment, 2) Explore various ways to generate the dissemination of the information into various documentation, drawings, renderings and so on, 3) Investigate your own method of increasing the productivity of design with maintaining its creativity in collaboration with other applications.

is not so philosophical but rather pragmatic

Understanding urban environment with quantifiable measures has been the source of debates
Well then becomes the one of heated discussions … now possiblly the one of main trends
